EDWARD LEONARD GITTENS SR., 64, went home to be with his Lord Jesus, surrounded by his loving family, on July 5, 2010, after he lost his battle with cancer. Ed was born in Endicott N.Y. on September 17, 1945 to Arlene Virginia Clark and David Henry Gittens Sr., both deceased. Ed enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1963, where he proudly served his country. He was extremely proud to be a retired Marine. Ed moved to Texas in 1976, where he has resided ever since. He was also a member of Sheet Metal Workers Local #54 as a certified welder for forty one years, where he also served time on their executive board. Ed was a member of AA for 23 years where he had many caring and loving friends. Ed leaves behind a brother, David Gittens, a sister Sally Spinelli (Bob) of The Woodlands, Texas and 7 nieces and 6 nephews. Ed is the father of five children, Kimberly Chidester (Phillip) and her three children Sarah, Katelyn and Amy, and Kelly Gittens and her daughter Jessica.Ed leaves behind his loving wife of 41 years, Terri Lyn and their three children Kim McIrvin (Jonathan) and their daughter Kerri, Michelle Costa (James) and their children Katelyn (Katie), Rebecca (Becca), James (Bubba), Kristine (Sister), William (Will) and his son Edward Gittens Jr. (Nicole) and their daughter Bailey. Ed dearly loved his wife, children and grandchildren with his very being, they were his life. Special friends of Ed's for 34 years are Carl Cox, Bill Spratt, Richard Lambert (who just passed away last month) and Janet and Ruth thank you for being there. Ed loved us all. He will be missed. SEMPER FIViewing will be at the Cypress-Fairbanks Funeral Home, 9926 Jones Road, Houston, Texas 77065 (281-897-9823) on Friday July 09, 2010 from 5 until 8pm. Services will be on Sat., July 10, 2010 at 1:00 p.m.
