Aubrey Dale Armistead, 78, native son of Big Spring, Tx, passed away Tuesday the 7th of February in Houston, Tx. surrounded by his loving family. Aubrey was born in Big Spring on March 16, 1933 of the late Jesse Carrol and Ruby Hazel Armistead, Daniel and Dora Armistead of Big Spring and Aubrey Aquilla and Lela Long of Rising Star, Tx.. Aubrey, his brother J.C. and sister Betty attended Big Spring High School. Aubrey was a member of the Church of Christ and long time employee of Cosden Oil and Chemical Co. After moving to Houston, he continued working as an engineer in the petro-chemical industry, retiring from Bechtel Engineering. Throughout his career, Aubrey along with his wife of sixty years, Mary Jane Collins Armistead, enjoyed working in Kuwait after Operation Desert Storm, Paris, France; Singapore, Chicago, West Virginia and on the Alaskan pipeline. He is survived by his wife, Mary Jane, four children John Armistead of Arkansas, Sheela Armistead of Virginia, Jesse Armistead of Houston and Jane and spouse Steven Edwards and two grandchildren Sarah and Laura Edwards of Houston, one great-granddaughter, Haley Dalton of Flugerville; his brother J.C. Armistead of Ft.Worth, his sister Betty Weber of Arnold, Mo., and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at the Vanderveer Church of Christ in Burnet, Tx on Friday, February 10 at 1:00 and burial at Lakeland Hills Memorial Park at 2:30. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association (diabetes.org), Cherokee Home for Children (chc4kids.com) or your favorite charity.
