Our Professional Legacy

Houston Funeral HomeOne of the most difficult things about being a funeral director is dealing with death on a daily basis. Contrary to popular belief, we never "get used to it". However, years of dealing with numerous families has given us the strength and knowledge to assist families in arranging funerals. We, at Cypress-Fairbanks Funeral Home are proud of our heritage in funeral service, and would like to take the opportunity to share that with you.

James O. Choate, or Jim as he is known to his many friends and client families, is President and a licensed funeral director. He began his career in funeral service with the Weldon Davis firm in Nederland, Texas. After graduating from college, he became a purchasing agent in the petroleum industry and worked overseas for many years. Upon realizing that he missed serving families in the funeral industry, he enrolled in mortuary college. He graduated from Commonwealth Institute of Funeral Service in 1987, and went on to serve his apprenticeship with Earthman Funeral Directors. Jim was employed with Earthman Funeral Directors for over six years prior to founding Cypress-Fairbanks Funeral Home.

Jim has a long-standing history of community involvement. He is currently members of the National Funeral Directors Association, the Houston Metropolitan Funeral Directors Association, the Commonwealth Alumni Association, and the Cy-Fair Chamber of Commerce. His philanthropic endeavors include the neighboring Cy-Fair Independent School District as well as others.
