Tribute

Barbara Ann Stewart, née Formes, was gently called to eternal rest on April 2, 2024, at the age of 82, having been welcomed into this world on March 18, 1942, in Mount Vernon, New York. Her service to the nation was rendered in quiet humility, as she donned the uniform of the US Navy from 1964-1966, offering her skills as a nurse with dedication and reverence for the sanctity of life.

During her time in the Navy, she met her future husband and lifelong love Craig Stewart. They married in 1966 and remained devoted spouses for nearly 58 wonderful years. Their life together began in New York and Maryland; in 1978 they relocated to Houston where they raised three devoted sons.

Following her military tenure, Barbara continued her nursing vocation with unwavering commitment at Heights Hospital, St. Joseph Hospital, and Fort Bend Hospital, where she served as a beacon of healing and compassion. She ultimately ascended to the demanding role of quality assurance director, improving the level of care for countless patients.

A faithful servant, Barbara's life was a testament to her piety, which found its home within the walls of Christ the Redeemer Catholic Church. Her spirituality was the compass that guided her through life's journey, and she cultivated a garden of community and faith through her involvement in church initiatives.

Barbara's hands, ever folded in prayer or extended in service, were also instruments of creation. After retirement from nursing, she created beautiful scrapbooks to preserve precious family memories and orchestrated the beloved Classics Senior Group at her church, planning trips and events for seniors. Barbara crafted over 8,500 handmade cards with a mission to sow seeds of joy in the hearts of hospital-bound children. Each piece she created was a psalm of her heart, an offering of her love for all of God’s creation.

She leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion in her bereaved husband, Craig Stewart; her sister, Patricia Lind; her sons, Brian, Kevin, and Christopher, with their spouses, Julie and Brenda; as well as her treasured grandson Nicholas and granddaughter Allison.

The community will gather to honor Barbara's sacred journey in a Mass of Christian Burial at Christ the Redeemer Catholic Church. Cypress-Fairbanks Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.

As Barbara enters the Kingdom of Heaven, her spirit is enshrined in the hearts of all those she inspired through her humble service, her gratitude for every blessing, and her unwavering respect for the divine tapestry of life.
