I am shocked and in disbelief. I was going through my old phone directory and thought I should look up Kerwin after so many year.
We met in KSU about 1996 when I was studying towards my Master's Degree. My roommate ran into Kerwin on campus, possibly from his organization's booth to attract international students. Kerwin invited us to his house and we met him and his roommate (the Chemistry PhD candidate who likes to watch TV lying on the carpet with bare foot, and I felt embarrassed sometimes trying get a angle at TV w/o his foot in the view). We became friends right after. My roommate and I attended his meetings on a few weekends, watching Super Bowl or Indiana Jones and Last Crusade. We went hey ride with Kerwin and his friends and that was super fun.
I deem Kerwin as a big bro. He is always warm, calm and respectful like an old generation. He lives on budget but rich in faith and always helping others. Kerwin invited me to visit his mom in Wichita and I was so fortunate to meet his mom, a super nice lady, the house he grew up and 2 big dogs I never imagined. We visited the tropical zoo in Wichita and saw the African instrument "rain stick".
One day in January 1997 before I left Manhattan, I attended Kerwin's meeting for the last time. At the end of the meeting Kerwin turned to me and asked I was willing to accept Jesus as my personal savior. Trying not to disappoint him I said yes. It turned out to be my best decision ever.
I will always remember you, Kerwin. RIP.

Pastor Kerwin was my Youth Pastor from 13-17yrs old...he made a huge impact on my life...I will always be thankful that God brought him to Bridgman Assembly of God to be our Youth Pastor. I am glad we were able to keep in touch even after he left, then reunited on Facebook...
I am saddened that he is no longer with us, I will miss our talks and his post...but I will never forget the things he taught me.
I will keep his wife Sunny, daughter Zoe, his sister and brothers and their families in my prayers....
Kerwin never made me feel stupid for any questions I had about the bible growing up...I peppered him with many questions....
He was always there for my sister and I....every time we needed him...he even came to my grandmother's funeral, it spoke volumes to us that he came to help us thru our time of grievances....we have many more memories...I will always hold on to all of them.
God bless all of the Nygren family....I look forward to when we will see Pastor Kerwin again in heaven....

Kerwin was my Youth Pastor at Bridgman Assembly, now Lake Michigan Christian Center. I had followed him on FB through his illness. I'm saddened at is passing, but am grateful that we will see him again someday. He is joining those that have gone before us. I am thankful for his insight and input into my life all those years ago. Prayers and hugs to his wife, daughter and extended family
