Laverne Faye (Nelson) Geloff born December 6, 1960, in Wood River, Illinois. passed away after a courageous battle with cancer on July 5th, 2017, in her home in Cypress , Texas, surrounded by her family.
Laverne attended Roxana Senior High School graduating class of 1979. She attended college at Monmouth College in Monmouth, Illinois, as well as Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. Laverne enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, sewing, quilting, gardening, geocaching, cooking and genealogy. Laverne was a member of National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, Breeders Greeters Committee at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, and as a child was an active Girl Scout and Rainbow. Laverne volunteered at the Foundry Church, CyFair Helping Hands, CyHope and Hope Chest, Find a Grave project and Pi Beta Phi Sorority.
Laverne is survived by her husband Richard Geloff, mother and father-in-law Charles and Lucille Geloff of Vandalia, Ohio; children Erin and Joshua Wilcox of Cypress, Texas, Megan and Ben Kandel of West Liberty, Ohio, and Brice Geloff of West Liberty, Ohio; Grandchildren Lana, Melanie and Matthew Wilcox, and Zane Kandel. Laverne is the youngest sibling survived by her brother Robert and Linda Nelson of Alvin, Texas; sister Barbara and Richard Farthing of Bunker, Missouri; sister Nancy and Don Trask of East Alton, Illinois; brother Harry and Lori Nelson of Meadowbrook, Illinois; brother-in-law Greg and Lisa Geloff of Vandalia, Ohio; sister-in-law Jennifer and Will Connery of Plymouth, Michigan. Laverne is also survived by a large extended family including nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, a goddaughter, numerous friends and her fur baby Blossom.
She is preceded in death by her parents Harry Jr. and M. Faye Nelson who were from Wood River, Illinois.
The family would like to recognize and thank the staff at Houston Methodist Hospital and the nursing staff of Vitas HealthCare for their love, care and compassion.
