Melvin Ray Herndon, 60, of Cypress, Texas, returned home to the loving arms of our Savior June 7, 2017.

“Mel”, beloved son of Melvin Nephi and Ella Herndon, grew up in Phoenix, Arizona along with his younger sister Beckie. As a teenager, Mel loved to read and was able to quickly learn computer skills which prepared him for employment in several industries over the years. Mel could usually figure out solutions to computer problems before technical support could.

As a young man, Mel joined the Navy and was stationed on a ship in Spain. While there, he learned the language and continued to speak Spanish every chance he could after that. He also learned many conversational phrases in quite a few other languages so he could converse with people he came in contact with.

Mel had many interests other than computers, including guitar and all genres of music, salt water reef tanks, photography, and ragdoll cats. He especially enjoyed meeting new people and serving others when he had the opportunity. Mel’s sense of humor made him fun to be around as you never knew what to expect.

Mel is a member of The Church of Latter Day Saints and is survived by his best friend and eternal companion, Tricia, his children Amanda, Danielle, Aaron, Amber, Austin and Andrew, eight grandchildren, his father, and his sister.

A viewing will be held at Cypress Fairbanks Funeral Home on Jones Road Wednesday June 14th from 5-7 pm. On Thursday, June 15th, there will be a viewing from 9-10 am at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints  16203 Longenbaugh Dr. Houston, Tx. 77095  followed by the service at 10:00 am. Burial will follow at Houston National Cemetery   10410 Veterans Memorial Drive Houston, Tx  77038  at 12:45 pm. (line up begins at 12:35). Mel will be greatly missed by his family and friends until we meet again.
