Bessie "Trixie" Tompkins

Bessie “Trixie” Tompkins passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 17, 2019 at the age of 96.  She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Roy E. Tompkins.

Left to cherish Trixie’s memories are her son Dennis Tompkins & wife Antoinette; her daughter, Gayla Lutz & husband Randy; her grandchildren, Denise Kirk & husband John, Kellie Utzman & husband Jason and Joshua Jordan & wife Holly; her great-grandchildren, Morgyn Utzman, Aidan Utzman, Marin Utzman, John Kirk, Jr., Casey Kirk and Taylor Kirk. 

Trixie enjoyed her family, being with people, Western Swing music, dancing, sewing and going to garage sales.  Her favorite summer activity was riding the rapids in New Braunfels.

She was born in a log cabin and raised in the rural Ozark Mountains of Missouri during The Great Depression.  As the middle child of the 7 children of Verdant and Stella Atwell, living on the farm, Trixie learned many valuable life lessons as well as gaining a deep seeded religious faith. 

Trixie’s musical talents were mostly self-taught.  As a young girl, she regularly sang and performed at school, church and local radio stations.    She played piano, guitar and fiddle; which was very appropriate as she later married a musician.

Her very close relationships with her siblings eventually brought all 7 of them to the Houston area to work, live and raise families.  Holidays and reunions were great fun for the many cousins.  She was a faithful caregiver to both parents during their later years.

As a homemaker, postal worker, waitress, school cafeteria worker and store clerk, Trixie influenced many people and gained many friends.  However, the friendships gained from many years of travelling to musical performances and dances with her husband, Roy, created enduring relationships that still continue to exist. 

To say that she will be missed is an understatement.  She will rest in peace.
