Tribute

On June 28, 2022, Betty Angeline Cobb, devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and loyal friend passed away at the age of 87. She was born to Edith and Edgar Dyche in Springfield Missouri on May 19, 1935.

Betty attended Wyandotte High School in Kansas City, Kansas where she met her future husband, Lloyd Fay Cobb. They were married in Kansas City after Lloyd was discharged from the U. S. Navy in 1955. Together they two sons, Matthew Steven Cobb, and Jeffery Carl Cobb. Lloyd’s job took them on a journey to several US cities. They lived in Kansas City, Kansas, Wichita, Kansas, Omaha, Nebraska, Denver, Colorado, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and finally settling in Houston, Texas.

Betty was a devoted mother. She was a Cub Scout den mother and organized a group of mothers to sew baseball uniforms for a team of kids Lloyd coached who had been cut from all the baseball team tryouts in the area. This made the kids feel special even though they never won a game! She attended all her boy’s school programs, helped with numerous science fair projects, and school papers. Growing up the Cobb household was always a place where kids were welcomed to congregate, and she maintained friendships with several of her son’s friends until the time of her passing.  She was also a very gregarious person with too many friends to count from the multiple cities she lived in and loved spending time with all of them. She even taught herself to play the Ukulele so they could all sing at the parties.

After she and Lloyd moved to Houston she took a temporary job at Shell Oil Company, she was so competent and well liked they hired her full time and she worked at Shell until she retired in 1999. While at Shell Oil she developed a love for working with computers, she learned so much from the engineers there she kept up that interest for the rest of her life. Also, late in life she became a self-described “gym rat” and went to the gym and various exercise classes 6-7 days a week until just the last few months of her life. She and Lloyd were always very fond of animals and had numerous pets during course of their marriage most of which were adopted. After Lloyd’s passing, Betty became a benefactor for many of the neighborhood stray cats, helping to catch them to be neutered when possible and providing outside food and warm shelter in the winter months.

Betty was preceded in passing by the love of her life Lloyd in 2018 and left behind her two children Matt and Jeff, her grandsons Ian and Andy, and her daughter in laws Nadia and Nancy. Mom, you are gone but not be forgotten, you will live on in our hearts forever. Memorial service will be held September 17 at 10 AM. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to the Alzheimer association or animal rescue of your choice.
