While at home hospice, she peacefully passed into the arms of Jesus on Sunday morning May 19 surrounded by loved ones. After losing her mother at the age of 3, she helped raise her 3 brothers and sister and later became the mother of 7, grandmother of 11, and great grandmother of 7.
Cecilia is survived by her daughter Anna McGavin and her 4 sons, Carlos Garcia Jr, Fred Garcia, Art Garcia, Hector Garcia; her grandchildren Lauren N. Arnold, Aaron J. McGavin, David Garcia, Jessica Scott, Carly Benitez, Leeza Steffen, Efran Garcia, Franco Garcia, Marco Garcia, Caryn Vasquez, Richard Olivarez; great grandchildren Gabriel and Azalea Scott, Anthony Benitez, Frankie Garcia, Mia Dilone and Luwyka Cepeda; her adored niece Martha Sulema Garcia, as well as other extended family members. She was preceded in death by her husband Carlos Garcia, her 2 daughters Rosa Vasquez and Isabel Garcia as well as all her siblings.
She retired as a seamstress from Levi Straus in south Texas was devoted to her family and was graced with the gift of service, offering prayer, support and her home to whomever was in need. Her children were her pride and joy. Her tenacity and faith never wavered through life’s challenges of raising a family during hard times and enduring two strokes. She was gentle but could be feisty matriarch who enjoyed cooking for and being surrounded by her family. She will be dearly missed but we take comfort knowing that she is now where she belongs.
