Tribute

Cheryl Lynn Stitt,  September 15, 1967 to January 2, 2019

Cheryl was born on September 15, 1967 in Lakewood, Ohio to Paul and Sharon Mandak.  She grew up in North Olmsted and attended North Olmsted High School, where she played volleyball.  One summer while attending the University of Cincinnati, she happened upon her future husband Ron after his baseball game.  That first night, they saw a shooting star; apparently that star would hold the light of a lifetime of memories together.

After marrying, they welcomed into the world their two beautiful children whom she adored, Tyler and Alexis.  Soon after, they moved to Houston, TX where Cheryl worked as a pharmaceutical sales rep for Warner Lambert, Pfizer and J&J, and later for Russell Stover Chocolates and Lindt USA. The young family enjoyed nature and the outdoors, especially trips to any beach or national park they could find!

In 2006, Cheryl was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis.  It was around this time that she began working at the Langham Creek YMCA, a place she called home for the remainder of her life.  While there she started a program to assist those afflicted with MS in becoming more active, and also headed the Livestrong program at her Y even before being diagnosed herself.  During her time there, Cheryl helped so many people achieve their goals, but it was the friendships she made there that enriched her life tenfold.

Cheryl also became active in the local triathlon and running communities through her tireless work in producing, along with Ron, some of the best events in the state of Texas. The race scene was her livelihood; she enjoyed seeing all of their friends, and had a smile for everyone. If you've done a running race or triathlon in Houston, you most likely have a bib that Cheryl gave you.

After being diagnosed with breast cancer in April 2017, she continued working straight through chemo treatments, surgery and radiation, never letting the cancer slow her down one bit, even after the cancer spread.  She remained a devoted and loving wife, mother, and daughter, as well as loyal and trusted friend and co-worker until the very end.  Cheryl leaves behind her husband Ron, children Tyler and Alexis Stitt, parents Paul and Sharon Mandak, and brother Mike Mandak (Holly) and dozens of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 5 PM,Saturday, January 12, 2019 at Crossbridge Christian Church located at 15415 West Road Houston, TX 77095; reception to follow the service. Flowers may be sent to this address.
