Deane Walter Johnson was born on February 14, 1946 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.  He died at the age of 74 in his home state of Texas, in the town of Cypress.

As an ambitious teen, Deane set his eyes on a career in the United States Navy.  He enlisted following his high school graduation and served his country faithfully for nearly 27 years.  He rose to the rank of Chief Warrant Officer, W-4 as an Engineer, and retired from military service in 1992.  His naval career afforded him many adventures, but his greatest adventure began when he met and married the love of his life, Karen Christina (Aubert).  The couple married in 1974 in Athens, Greece where Deane was stationed on the USS Barry (DD-933).  Their life together was full and included many travels; together, they experienced Ethiopia, France, Jamaica, Korea, Japan, and even Cuba, where Duane, their son, was born. The couple added to their family with a daughter, Melissa, and eventually settled in California. The two children were true blessings. Deane rooted his family in Oakley, California when he was stationed at SIMA San Francisco and later, the Concord Naval Weapons Station.  Following his retirement from the United States Navy, Deane became the lead foreman at Clean Bay Marine Spill Response in Concord, California.  When he wasn’t working, Deane was active in his local community.  He was a lifelong, dedicated Christian.  He was committed to ministry and served as a deacon in his church.  He was a firm believer of the faith and shared his love for Jesus with all.

Deane’s closest friends and family knew him as “John.”  John was fun and his cool disposition drew in many friends.  He was regarded as one who never met a stranger, and he had a social ease most admired.  John was loved for his charming, mischievous, playful spark.  He loved traveling with his family, horseback riding, bowling, and racket ball.  Deane was serious about his cards, a favorite pastime.  Most will remember him for his love of competition and his passion for Pinochle.

Deane is survived by his wife of 46-years, Karen Christina Johnson, their son, Duane Wesley Johnson, and daughter, Melissa Grace Johnson; his brother Don Johnson (Norma Lynn); two sisters Etta M. Cox, and Dawne C. Carmen (Virgil) along with nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, David Watson Johnson; his mother, Dorothy C. Johnson; and three brothers David W. Johnson, Jr., Daniel C. Johnson, and Darryl C. Johnson.
