Daniel Emmett Meyers

October 31, 1938 ~ April 18, 2024 (age 85) 85 Years Old

Tribute

Daniel E. Meyers, 85, loving husband, father, and friend, was born in Sidney, Ohio on 10-31-1938 and entered eternal life in Houston, TX on 4-18-2024. He was the adopted son of Don W.W. Meyers and Audrey B. Wierwille Meyers who preceded him in death.  Also preceding him in death were brothers Richard Purk of Pittsburg, Pa; Jerry Meyers of Sidney, Oh; and sister Justine Meyers of Massillon, Ohio.

Left to cherish his memories are wife of 64 yrs, Nancy Sidle Meyers; sister Zaneta Meyers Davidson and husband John Davidson of Longview, Washington; daughter Melinda S. Meyers Surdacki and husband Joseph V. Surdacki of Plano, Tx.; son Jon E. Meyers and wife Tara Hildebrand Meyers of Houston, Tx. Sister-in-law Rebecca Sidle Brumbaugh and husband Robert Brumbaugh, Roger J. Sidle, brother-in-law; numerous nieces, nephews & cousins.

Dan’s grandchildren are Alissa Meyers Compton (husband Mark) of Magnolia, Tx;  Chyenne Meyers  (friend Harvey Harrod) of Houston, Tx.;   Andrew Surdacki (wife Livia Ramirez) of Dallas, Tx.; Philip Surdacki (friend Samantha Davis) of Fort Collins, Co.; Peyton Meyers (friend Alissa Sampson) of Cypress, Tx.  and great-grandchildren Grayson Meyers, Aiden Compton, Waverly Compton, Tripp Compton and Oliver Surdacki.

Dan’s dog Tazzy remembers his warm lap and cat Penny remembers the nightly “rub downs.”

Dan graduated from Sidney HS, Sidney, Ohio; attended Miami of Ohio Univ., enlisted in the US Marine Corp in 1958 during which he spent time at Camp Pendleton, Ca; Okinawa, Japan; and Camp Lejeune, NC.  He was honorably discharged in 1961.  Dan was proud of his Marine Corp. service and honorable in every way, genuinely offering help and showing respect to others, and never cheating or sandbagging on a golf score.

Daniel worked in agronomy with ChemLawn of Troy, Oh; Houston, Tx;  Atlanta, Ga and Columbus, Oh. He managed the Columbus Golf Course in Columbus Tx and retired from P&N Machine in Houston, Tx.

Dan’s passion in life was sports, both as a participant, spectator and coach. Dan was an outstanding athlete in HS and in the Marine Corp North Atlantic League.  He excelled in football (running back), softball (catcher/pitcher), handball, volleyball, and golf. Dan loved coaching youth sports, both football, baseball and adult softball. He spent many years coaching youth football and baseball teams in Texas, Ohio and Georgia. He loved watching his children, grandchildren and great- grandchildren play sports.

Dan walked through life with a spirit both gentle and powerful. His memories will be in our hearts forever.

Dan was a member of Cypress Methodist Church.  A celebration of Dan’s life will be held at Cypress Methodist Church on May 9, 2024, at 10:00am.  Interment arrangements by Cypress-Fairbanks Funeral Home.  As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations may be sent to The Michael J.
