Debbie Kay Schmitzberger, age 56, passed away peacefully and surrounded by her loved ones in the early hours of Friday, December 8th, 2017 in her home in Cypress, Texas. She was the loving wife to Gunther and mother to her two sons, Evan and Alex. 

Debbie was one of three children, born and raised by Ernie and Gloria, in her hometown of Basildon, Essex, England. Debbie is leaving behind her father, Ernie, and two siblings, Susan and Gary, but is preceded in death by her mother, Gloria, and her grandparents.

Debbie went to college for Fashion, Art, and Design. She started her career at Rotary watches, followed by window decoration and display in Keddies. Debbie and her sister, Susan, wanted to see the world and became holiday tour guides together in Italy. Debbie enjoyed the experience so much that she worked in Majorca and Greece as well. She then moved to Houston, Texas to become a lead visuals department manager at Foley’s. 

While in Texas, Debbie met the love of her life Gunther. They were married for 28 years and built a wonderful life together.  Debbie put her career on hold to raise her sons, Evan and Alex, until they left for college. Debbie then used her artistic ability to turn old furniture people no longer wanted into masterpieces desired by many.

Debbie left this Earth too early after a long, brave, and courageous battle with colon cancer. She was able to maintain her positivity, generosity, and warmth till the very end. She knew how to love, laugh, and have fun with all of her great friends and family.

Debbie is no longer suffering and is now at peace. Debbie looks down on all of us with her bright smile knowing the positive influence she left on us all. She will be missed and cherished by all those she impacted: family, friends, and strangers alike. 

May Debbie be eternally at peace. 

The family requests that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be made to the GoFundMe in Debbie’s name for a colon cancer charity.
