Donald Ray Ortiz was born in Houston, Texas, on January 11, 1947, to Geraldine and J.H. Ortiz. Don enjoyed his retirement from corporate life where he acted in various roles as a Credit Department Manager. Don, along with his partner Ismael Riojas, shared a passion for rescuing the unwanted stray animals, providing them a loving home and better life.
Don was a devoted and reliable partner, son, brother and uncle. He served his country during the Vietnam War in the United States Army Pacific Command (USARPAC) and received an Honorable Discharge after his service. He served in the Army ensuring that supplies were where they were needed to be.
Don was lovingly surrounded by his family at his passing. He is survived by his mother Geraldine Howington, his partner Ismael Riojas, his sisters Vivian Brown and Elaine Broussard, his brother-in-law Earl Broussard, nephew Colt Broussard, niece Michele Jones along with her husband Gordon Jones. There are numerous great-nieces and nephews, and great-great-nieces.
Don was preceded in death by his father J. H. Ortiz.
Don will be missed by his family and friends.
Don will be interned at Houston National Cemetery. The family has requested, in lieu of flowers, please make a donation to your local VFW Post or Animal Rescue Shelter in his name.
