On Monday, September 12, 2022, Dorothy Edith Trimmer, devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away at the age of 78 after a long illness, which she fought courageously with the help and care of her family. Born on June 4, 1944, in Reading, Pennsylvania, she was the third of four children born to Theodore and Miriam (Nagle) Alexander.
She grew up in the Glenside area of Reading, Pennsylvania. She graduated from Reading High School in June of 1962. That summer, while attending church camp, she met Robert Trimmer (Bob). After dating for 2 years, on September 12, 1964, 3 months after Bob graduated from High School, she and Bob were married.
After a move from Reading, Pennsylvania to Winter Springs, Florida, Dorothy joined the Sweet Adelines, a diverse community of singers of all ages and abilities who come together through their love of barbershop music and stay together for the enduring friendships that result from singing close harmony. Following Bob, who was searching for employment, Dorothy subsequently moved to Houston in the mid 1970s. Dorothy was employed by the State of Texas as a Legal Secretary, a position she held for a number of years before deciding to return to the always necessary position of Homemaker.
Besides her love of singing, Dorothy was heavily active in her church and church ministry, where she oversaw the card ministry. She never forgot a birthday or an anniversary – and never sent a duplicate card to anyone – as many can attest. To relax, she enjoyed solving crossword puzzles.
She was a devoted wife to husband Bob of 58 years and a loving mother to three sons, Robert Earle II (Robbie), John-Michael Alexander (Mike), and Benjamin Matthew (Ben). She was Nana to four grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband Robert, her children; John-Michael Trimmer and his wife Lisa and Benjamin Trimmer and his wife Krista, her grandchildren; Jacob Trimmer, Brittney (Anson) Jourdan and her husband Brandon, Abigail Trimmer, and Reagan Trimmer, and her great grandchildren; Brynley Jourdan, Noah Trimmer, Leah Trimmer, and Blair Jourdan. She is also survived by her sister Florence (Alexander) Kupiszewski and sister-in-law Patricia Alexander.
She is preceded in death by her parents, brother Theodore Alexander, brother John Alexander, son Robert Earle Trimmer II, and great granddaughter Blakely Jourdan.
She is gone but never forgotten, leaving her loving memories in our hearts forever.
Her family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Airline Manor Baptist Church in her name. Contact Robert or Benjamin for details. They also invite you to join them for a memorial service at Airline Manor Baptist Church in Houston, Texas on Sunday October 16th, 2022, at 12:30 PM. All are welcome.
