Eleanor Southgate Giles, cherished mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend passed away peacefully surrounded by family at the age of 84. She was the 2nd of 4 children born to George and Evelyn Southgate on May 20th, 1939, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Eleanor was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Kelly Gene Giles; her children Bobby Giles and Sherry Porter; and her sister Catherine Dickson.

Eleanor attended Highland Park High School in Dallas, Texas and married her husband Kelly Giles in 1969. As a military spouse accompanying her husband during his time in the Navy, she travelled with their children across the United States. They were stationed in Kingsville, Texas; Millington, Tennessee; San Diego, California; Norfolk, Virginia; Key West, Floridia; and Jacksonville, Florida. Eventually they settled in Cypress, Texas.

Eleanor was a devout Catholic with a vivacious spirit brimming with kindness and generosity. Throughout her 84 years of life, she demonstrated remarkable resilience and perseverance. Her warmth and tenderness touched everyone she encountered. She was devoted to her family and friends and provided unwavering support, patience, and love. Eleanor’s gentle, selfless, gracious, and warm-hearted soul made a lasting impact, and she will be deeply missed.

Left to cherish her memory are her surviving children Evelyn Monk, Mary Giles and her husband Bill Wilkerson, Kattara Giles, Alicia Giles and her husband Brandon Vessey, and David Giles; her brothers George Southgate and William Southgate; her grandchildren Shannon Monk and his wife Lesa, Christopher Porter and his wife Victoria, James Porter and his wife Elisa, Catherine Porter, Alysa Wilkerson, and Brandon Wilkerson; her great-grandchildren Rylee Monk, Cash Hunter, Garret Monk, Reagan Porter, and Madison Porter; and many other loving family members and friends.

You are invited to join us in paying your respects at the memorial mass in honor of her life. The service will be held at Christ the Redeemer Catholic Church, located at 11507 Huffmeister Rd, Houston, TX 77065 on February 6th, 2024 at 11 am.
