Eugene Charles Holub

August 9, 1929 ~ June 24, 2018 (age 88) 88 Years Old

Tribute

Eugene Charles Holub, age 88, passed into eternal life on Sunday, June 24, 2018 at his home in Cypress, Texas. Eugene was born on the Holub family farm on August 9, 1929 in Moulton, Texas to Charles Joseph and Ellanora Anna Cook Holub. He worked hard helping his family, sharecropping on 5 farms, until they could finally buy their own. He often told stories about how he loved driving the tractor and playing basketball for his high school. Eugene served in the Army from 1951-1953. He did a tour of duty in Korea as a PFC combat engineer.

On June 22, 1954 he married Evelyn Vera Patek at Sts. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church in Shiner, Texas. To this union were born 6 children: Rose Marie, Deborah Sue, Eugene Charles, Jr., David Jerome, Nancy Jane and Edward James. Eugene and Evelyn moved to Houston in 1958 where Eugene worked in a steel mill for 2 years, then spent over 35 years sheetrocking until he retired. They moved to Cypress in 1981, where Eugene enjoyed maintaining a large garden on his acre of property. He loved "42" dominoes, Molly B, polka music and his children. He was very proud that he had 6 children, 18 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren...and, as he always said, "10 aren't even married yet". Ha Ha! He taught his children the importance of hard work, how to pinch pennies, how to use a hammer and how to make AWESOME BBQ.

Eugene is preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Ella Holub and by his wife of 54 years, Evelyn Patek Holub. He is survived by his children: Rose (and James) Gorney, Debbie (and Wayne) Ellison, Eugene (and Bonnie) Holub, Jr., David (and Debra) Holub, Nancy (and James) Smith and Edward Holub, his 18 grandchildren: Adam Gorney, Brandi Loving, Carrin Booth, Eric Ellison, Luke Gorney, Krista Babers, Michael Gorney, Kalli Holub, Aaron Holub, Jared Smith, Jacob Smith, Sarah Brown, Bryan Holub, Eugene Holub III, Corolyn Holub, Caitlin Gastony, Daniel Holub, Patrick Holub and his 11 great-grandchildren: Lanie, Wyatt and Marshall Loving, Carter, Catherine and Cora Booth, Evelyn and Joanna Gorney, Matthias Brown, Crosby Holub and Gwen Smith.
