Helen Sue Carson, 78, of Houston, Texas, died on January 2, 2022, from Lewy Body Dementia.

(Helen) Sue or SueSues, was born on June 24, 1943, in Stamford, Texas to Rupert and Lottie Raley.

Sue graduated from Waylon Baptist University in 1970 with a double major in chemistry and mathematics.

Sue had a career as an oilfield chemist for multiple companies including retiring from Amoco (BP) and Baker Hughes. She often traveled for her job and worked out of the country. Sue specialized in corrosion and was a member of the National Association of Corrosion Engineers (NACE) and was one of the first women that joined this organization. She was passionate in her career and recognized for her accomplishments by NACE, ABWA, and Who’s Who of America Women.

She was in Beta Sigma Phi sorority for over fifty years and earned their highest degree. She was a lifetime committeeman on Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo and served twenty years on the Corral Club Auctions and Receptions and Special Services committees. 

Sue loved needlework, her dogs, square dancing, playing bridge or blackjack, Elvis music, concerts, traveling, everything about math and science, and most of all, spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

She is survived by her daughter, Misti Carson and son, Bill Carson and wife, Leann, three grandchildren, Raley Carson, Seth Carson, and Emily Burgner and husband Daniel, and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her brother, Wayne Raley.

The family suggests memorials to The Lewy Body Dementia Association (lbda.org) or to a hospice organization of your choice.

The family would like to recognize all her wonderful caregivers through the years, most recently Avalon Memory Care and Loving Hope Hospice.

A Celebration of Life will be held in Galveston, Texas on May 21, 2022. Details will be shared later with family and friends.
