Tribute

It is with great sadness that the family of James Andrew Mayer III announces his passing on Sunday, March 18, 2018, at the age of 56 years.  James will be lovingly remembered by his children, Kalyn and Brady, and their mother, Lynn.  James will also be fondly remembered by his sister, Felicia Mayer, and several nephews and nieces, aunts, and cousins.  James was preceded in death by his father James Andrew Mayer Jr. and his mother Margaret Williams Mayer, and a cousin, who he considered a sister, Claudette Durham.

A native of Boston, Massachusetts, James attended Prairie View A & M University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics/Computer Science.  Upon graduation, James was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant Officer in the United States Army.  After serving thirteen dedicated years, Captain Mayer III was awarded an Honorable Discharge for his honest and faithful service while simultaneously pursing a teaching career with Hempstead Independent School District.  In 1988, he continued his teaching and coaching career with Houston Independent School District. He has been a teacher, friend, mentor, and coach at Walt rip High School for the past eighteen years.

James will be greatly missed; his life was his children.  He embraced life with love and dedicated himself to his students at school.  He was an inspirer of many.  James was a huge New England Patriots and Boston Celtics fan. A true animal lover, James loved caring for his faithful canine companions, Kalie, Missy, Cory, Addie and his “Big Ry”, Riley. He loved playing sports, especially with his children, and having fun with a game of Dominos.  His famous quotes will never be forgotten… “Go Pats!, Party with Your Boots On!, and You’ve GOT to do a better Job!”

The Mayer family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff at Cypress Fairbanks Medical Center Hospital and Kindred Hospital-Houston Northwest for their kindness, support, and excellent care that was shown to James.
