Tribute

Jesse Escamilla, Jr., 62, of Cypress, TX was called to his Heavenly Father on January 3rd, 2022.

He was the eldest of 5 children born on December 5th, 1959 to Jesse and Carmen Escamilla, Sr. in San Antonio, TX.  The Escamilla family relocated to Houston, TX in 1960 where Jesse Jr. graduated from Regan High School.

Jesse began his 40+ year career in the oil and gas industry as a draftsman in 1979 and eventually advanced to a lead electrical designer position before retiring in 2020.  He was well respected in his profession working for nationally recognized engineering firms such as Kellogg Brown & Root, Halliburton, Bechtel, and Jacobs Engineering.

Jesse met his wife Thelma Escamilla shortly after recovering from an early aged kidney transplant.  They shared many laughs and memories in their 17 years of marriage often while dancing, listening to music, or hosting family gatherings which would inevitably transform into late night poker games.  They shared their love for travel by briefly living in Washington State and often vacationing both domestically and abroad.

Jesse was an active parent to all of his sons; often volunteering his own time to coach in the multitude of sports they played growing up.  In fact, he loved watching all sports and could be routinely found channel surfing everything from professional football to the winter Olympics while listening at an unnecessarily loud volume.  However, there is no doubt his favorite sport was bowling.  Jesse has been an active member of the United States Bowling Congress.  He has played in leagues since 1982 and bowled at least 6 sanctioned and 2 non sanctioned perfect games. Many of his dearest friends were met through the bowling community of the greater Houston area.

In his later years, he would beam at the mention of his grandkids and would talk endlessly of their exploits in Alaska.  He recently discovered an obsession for cooking, researching recipes and trying his hand at them.  According to his youngest son he holds the claim of making the best lemon pepper chicken wings.

Jesse’s memory is lived on by his loving wife, Thelma Delia Escamilla; his three sons Jesse Escamilla III his loving wife Renee’ Elizabeth Escamilla, Joseph Anthony Escamilla, and Jayden Ryan Escamilla; his grandchildren Landon Cole Escamilla and Temperance Jo Escamilla; and multiple goddaughters.
