John George Thomas

John was born in Warren, Ohio on March 20, 1940, and passed away in Cypress, Texas on January 4, 2022 from complications following surgery.

John married the love of his life Karen on June 11, 1960. John and Karen grew up together, having known each other since the age of three. They shared what Karen describes as “an entire lifetime of happiness together!”

John was the owner of Able Garage Door Company in Houston, a large commercial manufacturing company. After the sale of Able Garage Door, John started another garage door company, Thomas Door, this time specializing in Residential Carriage House Garage Doors, where he still enjoyed going into his office daily until his death. The company will be carried on by John’s grandson Samuel Thomas Basile.

John was an avid football fan and loved the Cleveland Browns win or lose! John could be found every Sunday during football season in his TV room watching three different games on his wall of televisions.

John enjoyed drag car racing, and for a time owned a race car with his son John Michael Thomas doing the driving.

Everyone who loved John and Karen knew better than to call either of them during Wheel of Fortune. Their favorite evening pastime was seeing who could solve the puzzle first…most times the wins going to Karen!

John is preceded in death by his mother Anna Thomas; his father, Stanley Thomas; and his son John Michael Thomas. He is survived by his wife and best friend Karen Thomas; daughter Michelle Jernigan, son-in-law Dwayne Jernigan, grandchildren Chelsea, Alex, and Nick Jernigan; daughter Lisa Basile, grandchildren Sam, Aimee, and Joey Basile; grandson John Thomas, granddaughters Summer Dry (husband Chase), and Allie McNeer; and numerous great-grandchildren.
