John Robert Layton Jr. of Houston, passed away on September 29, 2017.
He was born February 22, 1937, in St. Louis , Missouri to John Robert Layton and Marcella Gunn.
John worked for many years at Cameron Iron Works where he helped fabricate special alloys and parts for the space program of which he was very proud.
For 38 years he was a devoted husband to Janet Hopkins Layton with whom he shared a full and active life which included international travel, family retreats at Galveston and snow skiing in Angel Fire, New Mexico. He also enjoyed walking his beloved boxer, Buddy, around the lake.
John served in the Marine Corps. for 4 years stationed at The Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center, Twentynine Palms in California.
His survivors include two sons, Justin L. Layton and John Robert Layton III his wife Christine and a daughter Terre Layton. He is also survived by his granddaughter, Eliana Grace Layton.
A service will be held at Houston National Cemetary, 10410 Veterans Memorial Drive at 12:30pm on Wednesday, October 4, 2017.
