John Carter Roffall of Cypress, Texas, passed away on May 11, 2022, at age 78 after a lengthy battle with dementia. John was born on July 1, 1943, in Houston, Texas and raised by his loving parents Joyce Aline (Owen) and Cecil Francis Roffall. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend who was deeply loved by all who knew him.
John graduated from Reagan High School in 1962 where he was an outstanding member of the ROTC program. He achieved the highest possible rank of Colonel and served as Battle Group Commander, Rifle Team Captain, and Drill Platoon Squad Leader. Upon graduation, He started working for Humble Oil & Refining Company, later known as ExxonMobil, while taking night classes at the University of Houston. Unbeknownst to him at the time, this is where he would spend his entire career. John married his high school sweetheart, Linda Belle Bolton, on June 27, 1964.
John and Linda went on to have two children, Michael Wayne Roffall and Theresa Renee Roffall, to whom he was a loving father. John was extremely talented and loved hands-on work and the outdoors. He enjoyed woodworking, welding, hunting, fishing, camping, canoeing and all sorts of outdoor activities. It often seemed there was nothing he couldn’t build or fix. He was a meticulous and hardworking man, and he lived by the words “If a job’s worth doing, do it right; if it ain’t worth doing, don’t do it.” John was very giving of his time, and he was always willing to use his talents to help others. Whether making the time to assist a neighbor with urgent needs, helping a friend or family member build an addition to their home, or volunteering with Habitat for Humanity, he was always there to help. He appreciated spending time at his beloved country property near Weimar, TX where he raised cattle and built a beautiful barn from the ground up. He also enjoyed watching his favorite sports teams, especially the Astros, Rockets, Coogs, Texans and Aggies. John retired from ExxonMobil in 2006 after a rewarding career spanning 44 years. This afforded him the opportunity to spend more time doing the things he loved, and he especially cherished time with his family and grandkids.
