Tribute

Juan Silverio Garcia De Alba was born on June 20st 1954 in Brownsville, TX to Luz and Jose Fausto Humberto Garcia De Alba.  In 1960 the family moved to Chicago, Illinois where he spent the rest of his young life with his sisters Magdalena and Lucy and his brother Fausto.    In 1974 the family moved to Houston, TX but Johnny as he was now known as stayed behind in Chicago.  In Nov of 1975 he came down to visit the family for Thanksgiving holiday and needed a haircut.  His sister Maggie knew of a local hairdresser and asked to squeeze him in the Wednesday prior to Thanksgiving.  That is where he met what would be the love of his life Jani Garcia.  After the holiday he returned to Chicago.  Unfortunately just a week later on Dec. 4th his father passed away peacefully in his sleep.  Johnny decided it was time to move to Texas.  He called Janie and said "I’m moving to Houston and I would love to see you when I get there.”

On August 26, 1978 they were married at our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Houston’s historic east side.  Jani stayed by his side for the next 41 years until his death.  In Feb of 1980 Jose Fausto “pepo” was born. In Sept of 1982 Delicia Maria “shama” arrived. 3 years later in Feb of 1985 Joseph was waiting for his 5 birthday party. It would never happen.   Stephen Paul “baby boy” decided to make his entrance on Feb. 24th 1985.  In August 1988 Krystal Marie “baby lady” was born and the family was complete.

Johnny started his career as a sheet metal worker and later designed commercial hvac systems for some of the buildings we still stare at today in Houston’s skyline.  Later in life he switch his focus to sales whereas always his verbal skills made him stand out.  He loved to fish and traveled throughout Texas and Mexico looking for the next big catch.  He also loved to hunt and do just about anything outdoors.

Johnny passed away on the afternoon of Oct 4th 2019 at the age of 65.  Jani, Shama, baby boy and baby lady were at his side.   He lived for each day and made the most out of any situation.  He is preceded in death by his Father Jose Fausto Garcia De Alba, his cousin Pedro Humberto Garza Gomez and his nephew Franco Vega.  He is survived by his wife Jani De Alba, his children Joseph & Teresa De Alba, Delicia & Paul Barreiro, Stephen De Alba & Michele Szeszycki, Krystal De Alba & Nick Holland, and his grandchildren Samantha and Scarlett De Alba.
