Tribute

Jose “Joe” L. Ibarra Jr.  was born October 10, 1951 to Jose Ibarra Sr. and Marciana Ibarra in the small town of Waelder, TX.  Joe would have a little brother join the family, Gilbert, better known as Gibbie. And eventually little sisters Linda and Lisa.

They would settle in Houston in a comfy, small house on Ocee Street.  Joe was a “rock star” as a member of the Moonglows, a small band with his buddies.  He loved writing music and playing his beloved saxophones.

He was a hard worker his whole life as a grocery store produce manager that started first at Weingarten’s that eventually became known as Kroger, or like he used to like to say K-Roger.  He was with the company for 40+ years.

He met who would become the love of his life, Irma, in early 1970 and would marry in September 1970.  Their first child, Joseph, lovingly called JoJo, was born in 1971. He would become the first and only grandson in the family.  In 1975, their daughter Tammie, joined the family.

Starting in the 80’s Joe quickly became Coach Joe to countless baseball and football players.  He would come to love the fact that he was the football coach of a young man who would eventually become an NFL player and still called him Coach. Later in the 80’s he would become Coach to dozens of softball players, who he treated as his own daughters.

In 1995 Joe and Irma became grandparents to grandson Christian and then grandsons Jacob and Matthew would complete his little happy family.

Joe is survived by his wife of 50 years, Irma.  His daughter Tammie Mercado along with son in law Hector and grandchildren Christian, Jacob, and Matthew Mercado. Sister Linda Trapp with brother in law Jerry and niece Emma.  Sister Lisa Morales with brother in law Rudy and niece Nova. Niece Crystal Argueta. And countless other family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents Joe and  Marciana. Brother Gilbert and his son Joseph.
