Joseph Shufford

Joseph Shufford was born October 22, 1942 to Luke and Alberta Shufford in Montgomery, Alabama.
In 1958, his family moved from the South to Gary, Indiana. He grew up attending Village First Baptist Church. Joseph Graduated from Calumet High School in 1964 and married Bobbie Marshall on March 31, 1964. To this union, 6 children were born; Kevin Shufford, Kenneth Shufford,, Kimberly Shufford, Keenon Shufford Kathryn Shufford-Dickie and Karla Shufford Tatum. Joseph also fathered two sons; Rodney Wynne and Joseph Lamont Shufford.
In 1974, Joseph served in the U.S. Armed Forces where he was a Chef in the Army. When leaving the Army Joseph started taking classes at Marilyn University and from there, he went to Indiana University. Joseph obtained an automobile certification from Indiana Vocational Technical College. In Gary, Indiana, he worked in the U.S. Steel System and the Ford Motor Company as well as the United State Postal Service.
In 1985, Joseph moved to Houston, Texas and retired from St. Joseph Hospital.
He departed this life on April 30, 2021.
He is proceeded in death by his son, Kenneth Joseph Shufford, parents, Luke and Alberta Shufford, brothers; Eddie Lee, Robert, Elliot, Rodell and sister, Anell Smiley. He leaves to mourn his departure, his children, Kevin (Marianne), Kim, Keenon (Linda), Kathryn (Wesley), Karla, Rodney (Candy) and Joseph Lamont (Stacy) as well as his Ex-Wife, Bobbie Marshall and his longtime partner of 12 years, Gwendolyn Rhodes, his three sisters, Margaret, Elizabeth, Mary and one brother, Eddie.
Joseph was the life of the party. He loved his twenty– eight grandchildren and eighteen great grands. He grew up hunting and fishing and loved gardening and cooking. Daddy also had a love for cars. He was a great dresser and loved to smell good.
