Karyn Genoice Simmons, age 73, went home to be with the Lord on March 24, 2020. She was born in Alice, Texas on September 10, 1946 to Jacob and Golia Awalt. She was married to Ron Simmons, her lifetime husband, best friend and confidant, for 52 years.
After meeting in college in Victoria, Texas, Ron and Karyn set off on a lifetime of adventures together. They started by owning a grocery business on the small island of Providenciales in the Turks and Caicos Islands and then finally settled in Texas. Karyn always stressed the importance of education and earned a Masters Degree in Education. During her 30 years in education, Karyn worked as a devoted high school English teacher and compassionate high school counselor. Karyn also worked as a Walmart associate in the jewelry department after her years in education.
In each of these roles, Karyn loved and cared for those around her. She made friends easily because she was kind, selfless, loyal and loving toward everyone she met. She always worked hard and led well.
After Karyn's love for the Lord, her family was her life. She is survived by her husband, Ron, her daughters, Kathryn Simmons of Hockley, Texas and Samantha Mantzel and her husband Russell of Bulverde, Texas. Karyn has six grandchildren, Paul, Madelyn, Jacob, Joshua, Julia and Titus Mantzel, all of whom she loved and adored.
Since we can not meet at this time, we are asking that you put a red, white and blue ribbon around your tree so we can remember the special person Karyn was. These were her favorite colors. You can post photos of your tree on the Tribute Wall on this website to show your support.
Memorial services will be held at Cypress Fairbanks Funeral Home. Service date and times are pending.
