Tribute

Kathryn (“Kathy”) Irene Atkinson (Martin) was born on January 2, 1954 to her mother DeLois Martin (Gerard) and father Donald Leslie Martin in Houston Texas.

Kathy was raised in Spring Branch where she attended Valley Oaks Elementary, Ridge Crest Elementary, Landrum Middle School and graduated from Spring Branch High School class of 1973.

Kathy lived with her Grandma Essie shortly after High School in a nearby apartment where she developed a passion for music through guitar and piano which her Grandmother happily taught her.

Kathy was a faithful and active church member of Radiant Life Fellowship Church off Long Point in Spring Branch where she assisted in the leadership of the Missionettes program for young girls. She was a member of the church chorus and often loved giving performances by playing the piano and singing.

She began working at a nearby K-Mart as a sales associate in the men’s department where she ended up finding the love of her life, Floyd Harold Atkinson.

After marrying on April 3,1976, Floyd and Kathy did some much needed vacationing and ended up purchasing their forever home together in Cypress, Texas.

Kathy went on to become an amazing loving mother to her first daughter Elizabeth Kathryn on February 17, 1981. Expanding the family and her loving nature just five short years later, she gave birth to her second daughter Sharon Kay on January 30, 1986.

While Kathy spent most of her life as a fantastic house wife and loving mother she also worked a few brief jobs later in adulthood which consisted of Tif-CO, Walgreens, Kinder Care, and Bed Bath & Beyond.

In Kathy’s spare time she found true fulfillment and joy doing puzzles of all kinds, cross stitching, reading, playing the piano,  gardening, playing cards, many crafts, and practicing sign language.

Kathy and Floyd have been members of the The Ark Fellowship Church in Cypress, TX for the past twelve years where she truly enjoyed fellowship with her husband, friends and many among the church congregation. Many fun times were held with all, creating memories that will last forever.

Kathy was a beloved Mother, Grandmother, Aunt, Sister, and friend to all. She always loved spending time with her family and loved ones. Holidays were her favorite times.

Kathy fell ill September 17, 2017 due to heart and kidney issues which placed her into Hospital care. After much medication, treatments and therapy sessions she was able to return to her home in Cypress with her husband Floyd on November 4, 2017. She continued to gain strength and maintain her health with home health therapist which later released her from any further demand for continuing care.

Holidays were nearing so Kathy used most of this new available time shopping, doing her nails, getting her hair done and grabbing a bite to eat. She shared a joyous moment seeing her grandchild Sarah Elizabeth come into this world December 13, 2017 with her other grandchild Luke James and many other loved ones and friends.

On December 24, 2017, Kathy was admitted to North Cypress Hospital for cardiac issues once again this time sending her into a coma with an unanticipated recovery. After being in ICU for over three week doctors ordered she transfer into a long term care facility near Spring Texas January 14, 2018. There she spent the last of her days before leaving this earth Saturday, April 28, 2018. She passed peacefully with her loved ones by her side moving on to her eternal home in Heaven.

Kathy will never be forgotten, always be loved, and truly missed.

We love you very much and can not wait until we see you again.
