Kevin Charles Gardner was the third child of James Franklin and Kathryn Yost Gardner, born January 18, 1960 in Corpus Christi, Texas. His paternal grandfather immediately dubbed him K.C. Even though the family persisted in calling him Casey, he always preferred Kevin.
Kevin had a remarkable life of achievements. After graduating from Westbury High School, he attended the University of Houston briefly before joining the U.S. Navy. From 1982 to 1986, Kevin served mostly on aircraft carriers such as the USS Independence and USS Saratoga in health services and environmental health. Aboard the ships, he traveled around the world, crossing the equator at least twice, and passing through the Suez Canal once. The family looked forward to calls from him from some international destination, such as the call from Bethlehem at Christmas. Kevin loved to talk to people. In London, he got a Buckingham Palace guard to recommend him a place to eat.
After leaving the Navy, Kevin tried his hand at different professions. He temporarily attended Texas State University. He received associate degrees from Houston Community Law Enforcement Academy, then Universal Technical Institute for servicing large vehicles. To try his hand as a chef, he received an associate degree from le Cordon Bleu in Austin, Texas. Kevin could concoct the most amazing meals without any recipes. He also served in the U.S. Naval Reserves from 1986 to 1989. But mostly, Kevin preferred to drive semi-tractor trailers across the United States and Canada, which he started doing in 1999. On his last cross-country journey, Kevin stopped to rest in North Platte, Nebraska. It was there that he passed peacefully in his sleep on April 8, 2022.
Kevin was a Third Degree member of the Knights of Columbus.
Kevin was preceded in death by his father James. He is survived by his mother Kathryn and his siblings: Gregory Allen Gardner; Julie Anne Gardner; Kari (Gardner) Trackwell, and Michelle Marie Gardner. He is also survived by brother-in-law James Edward Trackwell, as well as Kari and James' three children, their spouses, and their children.
