Kirk L Baird, Jr.

June 23, 1954 ~ January 28, 2021 (age 66) 66 Years Old

Tribute

Kirk Lafayette Baird, Jr. of Houston, Texas passed away on January 28, 2021.  Mr. Baird was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma on June 23, 1954 to his late parents Kirk Lafayette Baird, Sr. and Velma Baird.

Kirk moved with his family to Healdton, OK at an early age and graduated valedictorian from Healdton High School.  While growing up in Healdton Kirk was an avid fisherman, bird hunter, and trained his hunting dogs to accompany him on his early morning Quail hunts.   It was there in Healdton that he met the love of his life, Jeannine.

Upon completion of his primary school education, Kirk moved to Norman, Oklahoma  to attend the University of Oklahoma.  While receiving an academic scholarship, Kirk went on to graduate at the top of the class with a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration.  He was highly recruited by many companies, and settled in on a finance position with Exxon Corporation.

Before Kirk left for Tyler, TX to begin his career, he married his love, Jeannine.  Soon after he began working for Exxon, he moved to Houston, TX, where Kirk Jr. fathered three boys, Kirk III, Andrew, and Scott.

Kirk remained employed with Exxon for over 42 years.  His work took him to some of the farthest corners of the world including South America, Africa, Europe, and Asia.  Upon his retirement from Exxon he was the second longest tenured employee to ever work for the corporation.  Kirk was a tireless worker; a truly loyal and devoted employee.  Kirk took his skills and abilities in the world of corporate finance home, where he took pride in his success as a private investor.

However, Mr. Baird’s greatest joys were training and watching his boys compete in athletics.  He also traveled a lot on the weekends and during the summers to watch little league and high school baseball, basketball, football, or whatever the boys were competing in.  He remained a University of Oklahoma Sooner throughout his life.  He traveled often to Dallas to be a spectator at the annual Red River shootout between Texas and Oklahoma and could be heard yelling BOOMER SOONER!  As a father, Kirk especially enjoyed taking his family to the outdoors to camp, fish, and water ski, often at Lake Sommerville in Sommerville, Texas.

In addition to his parents Kirk Sr. and Velma, Kirk Jr. is preceded in death by his two sisters, Linda and Suzanne.

He is survived by three sons and their families: Kirk Baird III and wife Lindsay of Seabrook, Texas and their four children Jonathan, Jameson, Hadley, and Ashton,  Andrew Baird of Houston, Texas and his two children Dillon, and Audrey,  Scott Baird and wife Abby of Cypress, Texas, and their daughter Hannah.
