Lonnie Paul Sandifer

Lonnie Paul Sandifer, age 71, passed away September 6, 2019. A Celebration of Life memorial service will be held at the River Oaks Baptist Church (2300 Willowick Rd. Houston, Texas 77027) at 3pm on Sunday, September 15th. Lonnie was born December 20, 1947 in Newton, Mississippi to Joy and Charley Sandifer (a Baptist Pastor). He is one of six children: brother Billy and sisters Lucy, Jean, Sue and Charlotte.

Growing up, his family lived in Mississippi, Louisiana, Georgia, and finally settled into Murfreesboro, North Carolina. After graduating from Murfreesboro High School in 1966, where his passion was playing football, Lonnie went on to attend Gaston Technical School (now known as Gaston College) and graduated with an Associate degree in Civil Engineering. He began his working career with the City of Charlotte, North Carolina in the Engineering department as an inspector and then a project manager for roadway projects. Never shying from a new adventure, Lonnie took a job with Rea Saudi Arabia in 1978 and moved his family to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. In 1984, he and his family made a move to Houston, Texas where he stayed for the rest of his life, minus occasional adventures working projects in Alaska, St. Kitts, U.S. Virgin Islands, Los Alamos, New Mexico, Las Vegas, Nevada, and Bellingham, Washington.

Lonnie loved to fish, travel, eat, and tell stories while surrounded by friends, family or whoever might be close by. He is survived by his wife Yoke Chan, his two sons, Mark and Travis and granddaughter, Paige.
