Tribute

Lucille Marie “Lucy” Fitts, 91, of Houston, Texas, loving daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend passed away peacefully on March 28, 2021.

She was born on September 23, 1929 in Jeannette, PA, one of five children to her late parents, Filomena and John Colangelo.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Charlie Slinker; husband Lewis Fitts; siblings: Carmella Bricker, Mary Francese, Michael Colangelo, and Daniel Colangelo; beloved son‑in‑law David Angelicchio.

After raising her children, Lucy began her second career at Fondren Orthopedics at Methodist Hospital.  From there she worked at Tenneco, then landed her dream job with 19 other employees under the direction of Charles E. Amos, II in 1994 at RMI Physician Services Corporation.  In 2000, she earned the “RMI Original Award” for one who had served RMI on support of the mission of their company.  There she developed a family of lifelong friends and finally retired in 2012, just before her 83rd birthday.

Lucy is survived by her children, Susan Angelicchio, Deborah (Keith) Nichols and Dominic John Gelfo; eight grandchildren: Melissa (Tom) Burgum, David John (Jean) Angelicchio, Michelle (Cregg) Walker, Emily (Kevin) Roth, Suzanne (Mark) Clevenger, Laura (Daniel) Bolduc, Jennifer Gelfo, and Dustin Gelfo; and sixteen great‑grandchildren: Zack and Bryce Burgum; Christina, Ava, and Carolyn Angelicchio; Colton, Ryland, and Adelyn Walker; Grant and Anna Roth; Logan and Jaxson Clevenger; Brooke and RJ Orlich; Brice Evans and Breanna Thompson; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Many memories and stories of Mom/Nan/Great-Nan will be shared by family and friends at the services.  Our greatest memories include her beautiful, welcoming smile for everyone; her love of all children (especially holding the babies); the fact that she cleaned anything and everything with bleach; she always arrived at least 30 minutes early; and the aroma of pierogis and cordon blue cooking in the kitchen at every holiday.

The family wishes to extend their sincere gratitude to the entire staff of Fairbanks Court Assisted Living for their loving care and smiling, affectionate faces that warmed Lucy’s heart in her last year.

We would also like to extend our gratitude to Dr. F. Daniel Medrano, who attentively cared for Lucy many years.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, giftfunds@stjude.org or a charity of your choice.
