Tribute

Mark Vey Langston, Jr, age 32, died from an accidental death in Asheville, North Carolina. Mark was born May 18, 1987, in Houston, Texas and was an adventurer throughout his life.  Before the age of 18, Mark lived in Texas, California, Australia, Nigeria, and England.  He adapted easily in each new location and was known for his aptitude for athletics, deep intelligence and his dry wit.  Mark loved to travel and visited (in addition to the places he lived) Spain, France, Germany, Singapore, Thailand, Italy, Switzerland, Portugal, Ghana and South Africa during his life.

After high school in England, he briefly attended Austin College where he was a member of both the soccer and baseball teams before transferring to The University of Texas at Dallas where he finished his bachelor’s degree in accounting and then completed a master’s degree at The University of Houston.  Mark began his career with leading public accounting firm, KPMG.

Outside of the office, Mark’s activities centered around sports.  He loved watching all sports, especially the Houston Astros, and had an uncanny knack for remembering sports trivia and stats. 2017 was one of the best years of Mark’s life when his beloved Astros won the World Series.

An avid hiker and outdoor enthusiast, Mark always had one dream; to hike the Appalachian Trail.   He left his accounting job in 2017 to prepare for the hike and he successfully completed the northbound hike in 2018 in just under six months.  His joy and memories from the hike led him to move to Asheville, NC in early 2019 so that he could be closer to the trail.

He was preceded in death by grandparents, Joanne and Harvey Langston and Roy Lee Trusty and his uncle, Richard Langston.

Mark is survived by his mother and father, Sara and Mark Langston; his maternal grandmother, Caroline Trusty; two sisters, Caroline Montalbano and Melissa Langston; one brother, Christopher Langston, one nephew, Matthew Montalbano, one niece and goddaughter, Elizabeth Montalbano and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, Sep. 7, 2019 in the Chapel of Cypress-Fairbanks Funeral Home.
