Matthew V. Hopkins was born in in Birmingham, Alabama on May 4, 1967 to James and Charlcie Lively Hopkins. He moved to Richardson, Texas at an early age. He went to Berkner High School where he excelled in academics and played varsity 5A football.
Matt graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a degree in biochemistry and received his M.D. from Texas A&M College of Medicine in 1999. Matt’s medical residency was at Dartmouth College in New Hampshire, where he was chief resident in psychiatry. In 2006 the family moved to Wyoming where Matt worked at Westpark Hospital in Cody.
Matt was extremely intelligent doctor, loving husband and father, a passionate outdoorsman, a devotee of philosophy, an ardent and uncompromising political debater, a voracious reader, insatiable researcher, proud Longhorn, college football fanatic, animal lover, and dedicated weightlifter. He was an intense and vociferous in his enthusiasms.
Matt passed away suddenly on September 25, 2021. He was preceded in death by his father James. He is survived by his wife Keri, children Ariel and Seamus, mother Charlcie, sister Leslie, niece and nephews Blythe, Eli and Owen, dog Bevo, and cats Pickles, Kirby and JuJu-Bee. His dog Tarzan is waiting for him on the other side, ready for their next adventure.
The world will be a less interesting place without him.
