Nancy Lee

Nancy Lee, age 83, passed away in her sleep May 8, 2022 in Houston, TX after having struggled with advancing dementia for many years. 

She was preceded in death by her parents Alexis Claude and Violet “Dolly” Dillard of Ft. Worth, TX.  She is survived by her daughter, Laura Preble and husband, John, as well as her constant companion of twenty-eight years, John Blacketer.  Laura and John have three children; John Preble, Jr. and wife Mattie; Michael Preble and wife Kaitlyn; and Jessica Kidwell and husband Patrick.  John Blacketer has one daughter, Stephanie Bosley and husband, Michael.  Grandchildren include Chris Preble, Maren Mae Preble, Jaxon Kidwell, Parker Kidwell, Kayle Bosley, Kallie Armstrong, Kassie Bosley, Kinzy Bosley and Keenan Bosley.

Nancy grew up in Ft. Worth, TX and earned an undergraduate degree in teaching from North Texas University and a few years later earned a master's degree in teaching from Texas Christian University.  Being a lifelong student who enjoyed all forms of literature, she was a dedicated teacher who particularly enjoyed the satisfaction of working with special needs students.  She was also a dedicated daughter to her parents caring for them until their death.  Most of all, Nancy was a dedicated grandmother.  She took particular pleasure in photographing family events and creating picture books memorializing those events for her grandchildren.  Nancy also enjoyed sewing and crafts, especially when it involved making unique gifts for her grandchildren and some of her blankets and other creations continue to be cherished today.  As Nancy’s dementia increased, she often found respite from her anxiety in listening to and singing classic country music songs.  At the nursing home, John would play her music in the common areas and other residents would often join in on these daily sessions.  Nancy’s impact on her many students over the years and the positive influence she had on her family will live on long after Nancy’s passing from this world.

A visitation for Nancy’s friends and family will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, May 13, 2022 at the Cypress-Fairbanks Funeral Home at 9926 Jones Road, Houston, TX 77065.  A celebration of Nancy’s life led by Brian Offutt, Pulpit Minister at West Houston Church of Christ will follow immediately beginning at 2:00 PM.
