Noni Miller Gay passed away on Thursday, November 16, 2017 in Tomball, Texas at the age of 77 after a long battle with cancer. Noni was a long time resident of Shreveport, Louisiana. She was born to Marion Julia Wise Miller and Jack Monette Miller in Shreveport on July 25, 1940. She married C. Richard Gay on December 17, 1966. They leave a legacy of love and triumph. They were devoted to each other through thick and thin.
Noni graduated from Byrd High School and attended Centenary College of Louisiana. She was very active with her lifelong friends from Byrd, Centenary, and St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. Whether she met you at the post office or the country club, she made you feel special. Noni took an instant interest in your life and loves. She was a blessing and delight to those she came into contact with. You were lighter and happier for having spent time with her. Noni never left her front door without putting her lipstick on even if it was just to take the trash can to the curb.
Noni lived a full, long, happy life in Shreveport until the call of their grandchildren brought her and Richard to the Houston area in 2005. She truly cherished the close bond she built with them. Noni loved her family with a force that was tangible. She delighted in sharing time and experiences with them. With her children and grandchildren, she shared the magic of live theater at Marjorie Lyons Peter Pan Playhouse, the intrigue of discovery at Sci-Port, the awe of visiting Barksdale Air Force base, and the joy of fun at Toy Fair. She loved life and led others to do the same.
When she fell sick in the summer of 2016 and was diagnosed with advanced pancreatic cancer she was told there was no cure. She made up her mind to do whatever it took to buy more time with her family. She underwent months of chemotherapy to buy a few more good days with her loved ones and to invest in her grandchildren.
She is survived by her children and their families - son Chuck Gay and his wife Nancy of Cypress, Texas and their children Natalie and Richard; daughter Shannon Gay Atkinson and her husband Jason also of Cypress and their sons Miller and Patrick; and cousin Sheri Ritchie of Katy, Texas. She was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years Richard Gay, her parents, and her brothers Jackie and Bennie Miller.
Visitation will be at Cypress-Fairbanks Funeral Home at 9926 Jones Road, Houston, Texas on Tuesday, November 21, 2017 from 6-8 PM. A graveside service officiated by Father Brian McMaster of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in College Station, Texas will be held at the Aggie Field of Honor in College Station at a later date.
A special thanks to the staff of Grace Care at Northpointe in Tomball, Texas for their tender, loving care during her final months. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Shreveport Little Theatre Academy, Byrd High School Alumni Association, or your local animal shelter.
