January 12, 1924 ~ February 17, 2021 (age 97) 97 Years Old

Tribute

Norah Louise Pledger was born above a Green Grocery in Newbury, England. She died at her residence on February 17th. She was an only child with dreams of dancing.  Soon the war brought harsh conditions but her family unit stayed together with children from London coming to stay to avoid the carnage in London.

She remembers one stick of butter per family a week, as well as one egg per person a week.  Indeed Norah was frugal.  She grows into a young woman and met Robin Pledger, a soldier who came to tea and ate most of their butter!  Off to battle, they write letters for 6 months until he proposes to her, and then were married in Newbury in 1945.  They had three children Keith, Sarah and Lauren.  Many a family camping trip took the family all over the States.  Norah had fervent wanderlust.  She loved to travel.  They spent most of their lives in Houston but planned many a trip together.  After they retired, they purchased 6 acres of land and built a house in Bellville.  Norah was a city woman and was concerned about being in the country as she looked out her kitchen window...with binoculars...  However,  she managed to Keep up with her Daughters of the British Empire. Historical Society as well as volunteering at the Hospital keeping up with the gift shop.

Later in her life, she and Robin moved back to Houston where she would outlive him.
