Patricia Ellen Nelson, born on Dec 7, 1926 in Duluth Minnesota, passed away peacefully on the morning of Oct 24, 2019 in Houston, Tx. She was preceded by her husband, Joseph Warren Nelson Jr of Rochester, New York in 1986. She is survived by her three sons Joseph W Nelson III and wife, Ann of Richmond, Virginia, Thomas J Nelson and wife, Valerie of Houston, Texas and John P Nelson of Noble, Oklahoma. She was proud of her seven grandchildren William, Katie, James and John all of Houston Texas as well as Gabe Nelson and Megan Pratt both of Richmond, Virginia. She also treasured her four great grandchildren Lily, Tommy, and Matthew of The Woodlands and Townes Pratt of Richmond.
She was a loving, Westinghouse housewife who lived the American post-war dream raising three boys through the sixties so they could survive the seventies and see the eighties and beyond. She was an especially good cook specializing in spaghetti, pot roast, meatballs and mushroom sauce, and casseroles of every variety made perfect with cans of Campbells mushroom, chicken or celery soup.
She was a graduate of Duluth’s Denfield high School earned a bachelor’s of English from the College of St. Scholastica in Duluth, Minnesota and played leading roles in both high school and college theater. She taught Jr High English in the Duluth Area briefly before meeting and marrying Joe to begin raising their family in Minneapolis, Chicago, Detroit and Pittsburgh.
But most importantly she instilled in her sons, at an early age, a great reverence for God and His daily work in every person’s life.
