Reed Darwin was born in a farmhouse near Durango, Texas on December 4, 1940 and moved with his family to the Houston area when he was seven. He married Sharon, his Reagan High School sweetheart in 1963. They welcomed a beautiful daughter, Alissa, who was the most important part of his life until his grandson, Steven was born. He also was greatly appreciative to his son-in-law, David who took wonderful care of him over the last several months.
Reed Darwin Arney is known to some as Reed and to some as Darwin. He began working for Exxon in their computer department but wanted to become a teacher so he attended Sam Houston State University and graduated with a teaching degree and began his career in HISD and moved to Arnold Middle School in Cypress-Fairbanks ISD in the late 1970s. He taught Texas History, American History, and World History as well as finishing his career teaching psychology and sociology before retiring from Cy-Fair High School in 2000 and moving to Magnolia. His students were important to him and he loved them all and they loved him. He always told stories of the administrators asking him to take certain students because they knew he would be able to make a difference in their life.
He was a voracious reader and over his lifetime read thousands of books. He loved working in the yard and enjoyed having a garden for a few years after retiring. His daily coffee, which could be anytime of the day, was something he enjoyed. His family would like to thank the staff at M.D. Anderson, Dr. Pranav Loyalka and Dr. Steven Napierkowski for giving him more time with us. He will be deeply missed by family, friends, and all who knew him.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 11, 2021 from 4-6 PM at Cypress-Fairbanks Funeral Home at 9926 Jones Road. A funeral service will be on Friday, November 12th at 2 PM at the same location.
