On Monday, October 30, 2023, Rhonda Joyce Rhymes, loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend, was called to her heavenly home at the age of 73 after a health battle. She was the first child born to Edgar and Edna DeLois (Herrington) True on May 16, 1950 in Pryor, Oklahoma.
Rhonda was born and raised in Oklahoma, graduating from Pryor High School in 1968. While in High School, she met her future husband Marvin at the local cleaners her aunt worked, and later she worked at the M&R Café that Marvin’s mother owned. From there the bond grew stronger and they eloped after Rhonda graduated high school in 1968 at Stigler, Oklahoma. Rhonda and Marvin settled in the area and were blessed with two loving children, Angie and Anthony, aka Snuffy. They were both active members of the Jaycee’s and took family vacations to be with Louisiana relatives and went to the spring fed creeks with family and close friends.
In 1980, work was calling for Marvin, and the family relocated to Texas. Rhonda was first employed at First City Bank in downtown Houston, Texas, taking this small-town girl to the heart of a big city. Afterwards she worked at Cabot, Valen, and later with an eye for jewelry, she was employed at Jared’s where she excelled at accomplishing the million-dollar status for sales. She enjoyed being able to bring smiles to the customers and hear stories of their engagements and upcoming marriages. She was blessed with two grandchildren: Morgan and Brody – and they were her pride and joy. With her grandchildren, she created and enjoyed “Wacky Wednesdays” with Morgan during the summer and painting rocks with Brody throughout the year. Along with crafting, Rhonda enjoyed the outdoors, the beach, and the backyard, watching the birds, squirrels, and eating homegrown tomatoes (had better have some dirt on them). She loved sports, especially her Houston Astros and the Oklahoma Sooners.
Left to cherish her memories is her loving husband of fifty-five years, Marvin; children Angie Rhymes, and Anthony “Snuffy” Rhymes; grandchildren Morgan and Brody. An aunt, Bernice Baisden, of Claremore, Oklahoma, one uncle, L.W. True and wife Steveanna, of Pryor, an uncle, Billy Kerns, of Salina, Oklahoma, and her best friend, like a sister, Sandy True of Pryor, Oklahoma and many other grief-stricken family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents Edgar and Edna DeLois True, and siblings Donald True and Curtis True. Also preceding her are her grandparents, five True uncles, one Herrington uncle and three aunts.
She is gone but never forgotten, leaving her loving memories in our hearts forever.
