Richard Wayne Hammond passed to Heaven May 18, 2017 at 12:30 PM after a lengthy battle with cancer and Alzheimer’s disease.  He was born in Atoka, OK to William and June Chitwood.  He enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1964 and served proudly in the Viet Nam War.  He was honorably discharged in 1968.

Richard married Carolyn Jean Arnold on June 26, 1970 and they were happily married for 47 years.  Richard worked for Marek Brothers  Family of Companies in the computer field.

He was predeceased by his father, William (Bill) Hammond and his mother, June Chitwood Hammond Gardner; and a sister, Billie Hammond Luzchow.  He leaves behind his loving wife, Carolyn Jean; a sister Carolyn Gardner Moore of Boston, MA; a step-brother, Robert Gardner; a cousin, Gerald (Bud) Compton of Moore, OK; and a cousin, Larry Compton of Atoka, OK.

Visitation will be Wednesday, May 24, 2017 from 6-9 PM.  Funeral service will be held at the chapel at Cypress/Fairbanks Funeral Home at 9:30 AM followed by military honors and internment at Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery at 11:30 AM.

The family requests donations to the National Alzheimer’s Association or the National Cancer Foundation in lieu of flowers.
