Tribute

Robert “Robbie” Arnold Johnigan, an adoring and animated husband, father, ‘papi’, cousin, nephew, brother, uncle and friend, went home to be with the Lord on January 13, 2022. Robbie was the second of three brothers born to Joanne and William “Bill” Johnigan on January 13, 1948, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

The Johnigans moved to Galveston, TX where Robbie graduated from Ball High School.  Following his graduation in 1966, Robbie served his country in the United States Air Force through 1972.  His reenlistment was extremely unique as he was reenlisted in mid-air for the National Air Guard until 1974. During his tenure, Robbie achieved a rank of Staff Sergeant.

Robbie loved music and played bass with the band 1900 Storm.  After the military, he started Vortex, a music and lighting business, allowing him to tour with various musicians including George Strait, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Merle Haggard, Marshall Tucker, Ronnie Milsap and numerous more. Building on his skills, Robbie began his 22-year career in electrical engineering at Oceaneering in Houston, TX, finally retiring in early 2020. During this time, Robbie developed and held several patents in his name.

Robbie was a critical thinker, diligent in everything he did.  He abided by the motto of measure twice (or three times) and cut once.  He made a strong and lasting impression on anyone he encountered – whether with his unique sense of humor, high expectations or light-hearted demeanor. In 2013, he met Mona and married her after a two-year courtship. The two enjoyed working on DIY projects together, grew each other in their faith, and loved each other dearly.  Robbie loved God, his country and his family.

Left to cherish his memories are his loving wife Mona Johnigan, his brothers William “Sonny” Johnigan, David Johnigan and wife Jane, his daughters Denise Schiel and husband Louis, Patricia Johnigan, his three stepdaughters, Lara AbouChakra and husband Fouad, Nadine Kaedbey, Sandra Ferguson and husband Brendan, his uncle John “Buddy” Bauman and wife Elaine, ten grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Robbie is preceded in death by his parents Joanne (Bauman) Johnigan and William “Bill” Johnigan, as well as his daughter Laura Johnigan.

The funeral service will be held at 1100 hours on Thursday, January 27, 2022, at Crossbridge Christian Church at 15415 West Rd, TX 77095.  The interment of his cremated remains will follow at 1415 at the Houston National Cemetery with full military honors conferred by the United States Air Force.
