Robert Louis Reue

August 19, 1959 ~ May 17, 2023 (age 63) 63 Years Old

Tribute

Robert Louis Reue was born in Port Lavaca, Texas on August 19, 1959.  He was 63 years old and died on May 17, 2023 at his home.  He was married to Alicia Ingram Reue on June 8, 1985.  They have two sons, Jason Ryan and Cole Andrew.  He graduated from Southwest Texas State University in May 1981 and was employed by the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts for 33 years as a Tax Auditor and Computer Audit Specialist.  He retired in July 2014.

He is survived by his wife Alicia Reue of Houston Texas, son Jason Reue and wife Chelsea, and their children Jackson and Ava of Houston, and son Cole Reue and wife Allison, and their child Harper of Round Rock.  In addition, he is survived by his mother Alice Reue of Yorktown, and siblings Virginia Kveton of Seguin, Yvonne Bonorden of Victoria, Joseph Reue of Sugarland, Patty Sundin of Bay City, Mary Reue of Elizabeth City, NC, William Reue of New York City, and Susy Graves of Austin.

In Robert’s work career, part of his job was helping to keep the auditor’s computers updated.  A previous manager said he had the patience of Job.  He won the 2008 eDay Employee Award for Beyond the Call of Audit Field Duty.  This was a surprise award and some excuse was made to get him to go to Austin for the ceremony.  At the time, he was suffering with sciatica and later stated he was not sure he would make it up the stairs for the recognition.

Robert enjoyed woodworking and took great pride in his work.  He made several pieces of furniture and a manger with carved figurines for Christmas.  For Jason’s cub scout den, he would make all the projects but did not want to be considered a leader.  He liked being in the background.  Do you remember the year he made tom-tom drums for all the nieces and nephews at Christmas?  I bet the parents do.  Robert helped coach Cole’s soccer team for five years with his friend and co-worker Mario Lopez even though I do not think he ever played the game himself.  He also enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening and was quite good at flower arranging.  He fancied himself a good cook, but that was sometimes a hit or miss.  He would read a recipe, but seldom followed one.  He also wrote his semi-autobiography, titled Why Me.  He wanted to record his thoughts and experiences for his family.

Robert was most proud of his family.  He would always get a catch in his throat, and sometimes a tear in his eye, when speaking about each of them.  He just had a kind heart.  After retirement, there was nothing he liked better than sitting on the driveway listening to music and speaking to neighbors as they walked their dogs.  He could remember the names of the dogs before he could remember the neighbors.  And he loved watching Hallmark Christmas movies, even in July!

Funeral Services will be held on May 25, viewing at 10:00 am and celebration of his life at 11:00 am.
