Retired coach and teacher, Ronald Sollie Crain,72, of Houston, TX, died unexpectedly Sunday, July 3, 2022 at his home.

Ron was born April 4, 1950 in Jackson, MS, to Cooper W. Crain and Wessie Alford Crain.  He was a graduate of McNeese State University, where he had a football scholarship and was a member of Kappa Alpha Fraternity.  He received his bachelor’s degree in education and later, he attended Texas Southern University where he received his master’s degree.  He coached and taught at several middle schools and high schools during his career, some of which include Paul Revere Middle School in Houston, TX, Drew High School in Drew, MS, and lastly at Nimitz High School in Houston, TX.  During his career, he coached many sports, but his favorite was football and he also taught Algebra and Geometry.

Survivors include a daughter, Courtney Crain Tonkin of Houston, TX; sister, Ramona Crain Lewis, and her husband Russ, of McCarley, MS; nephew and niece Hoyle Granger Jr and Wendy Jane Granger both of Houston, TX; and three grandchildren, Riley Jordan Tonkin, Collin Matthew Tonkin and Avery Ann Tonkin, all of Houston, TX.

He is predeceased in death by his parents, Cooper W. and Wessie Crain, sister Sandra Jane Morton and brother, Barry Crain.

There will be a Celebration of Life in honor of Ron on Friday, July 22, 2022  2 PM at Cypress-Fairbanks Funeral Home.  A reception will immediately follow.
