Rosalio A. Garza Jr.

January 25, 1947-January 8, 2021

“Charlie” passed away peacefully, with his family by his side, on Friday January 8, 2021 at Methodist West Hospital in Katy, Texas. His passing came just 17 days before his 74th birthday.

Charlie, as he was affectionately known, was born in Corpus Christi, TX on January 25, 1947, he attended Corpus Christi schools and performed locally as a self-taught drummer.

Charlie proudly served his country when he joined the United States Army in 1966, where he served two tours in Vietnam. Charlie was awarded with the Vietnam Campaign Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and the Vietnam Service Medal. Charlie received an honorable discharge and will be laid to rest with military honors.

After his time in the service, he worked at the Corpus Christi Naval Base. In 1968, Charlie married the love of his life, Rosalinda Jasso, of Weslaco, Texas. A few years later they moved to Houston, where they would raise their four daughters.

Charlie lived his life humbly and began apprenticing as an electrician in 1972. He worked hard for his family and eventually became a journeyman electrician, working as a district inspector for HISD until his retirement in 2016.  Charlie is preceded in death by his parents Rosalio and Emma Garza; grandsons Christopher Allen Newman and William Russell Newman; son in law James William Anderson; Aunt Dora T. Alvarado, and uncles Eduardo and Paul Alvarado.  He is survived by numerous relatives including his daughters Liza Sanchez, Rhonda Windham, Charlene Nall, and Denise Garza Anderson; siblings Russell Garza, Linda Mejia and Ruth Rogers, as well as other numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and other family members and friends.  We are incredibly grateful for the love and care from the nurses and doctors at Methodist West Hospital and the team of doctors at MD Anderson when he had a brief battle with cancer in 2017.

Charlie loved life and was always happiest spending time with his four daughters, family and many friends. He was a man of faith and was always reading the bible and other religious books.  He loved playing the drums and was often reminiscing about the good times he had when he played in the band, and His house was often filled with music and cheer!
