Thomas William Ballis, also known as “Tommy” or “Tom,” was born on May 11, 1982 to Leslie Louise (Scott) Ballis and Billy Tom Ballis in Houston, Texas. He grew up in Rosharon, TX and Bay City, TX with his parents and siblings, Scott Paul Merwin, Lyle Raymond Scott, and Danielle Cherie Ballis Scott. He was the third born of four children. Thomas was always a very sweet, caring little boy growing up, always looking out for his little sister. He grew to be a loving and caring father and husband, as well as a loyal friend. He was thoughtful and sensitive, often thinking of others before himself. Thomas was intelligent and creative. He developed a love of music and art early in life and later learned to play the guitar and loved to draw. He also learned a lot about cars from his dad and older brother, Lyle, growing up, which grew into a passion for cars and developed into aptitude for mechanics and technical skills, as well as interest in cars, especially older Toyota trucks. He also learned a lot about art and enjoyed drawing and spending time with his brother, Lyle, who tragically passed away when Thomas was only 19. Thomas enjoyed spending time in nature, playing video games with his older brother, Scott, and his friends, having deep philosophical conversations with his loved ones, and fixing cars. He was a connoisseur of good food, and a great cook, always putting a new twist on everything he made. Thomas was a witty guy who could always make people laugh with his unique way of telling stories. He was such a genuine, authentic person with an exceptionally big heart who was not afraid to be who he wanted to be. Not only was Thomas caring toward his loved ones, but he was a good Samaritan who would help anyone, such as a homeless person needing food or someone broken down on the side of the road. He truly made a lasting impression on the lives of everyone who got to know him.
Thomas met the love of his life and best friend, Beatriz “Betty” Adriana Arroyo in March of 2007 when he was 24 years old. Thomas and Betty created many happy memories, grew together, and faced challenges together as life partners over many years. Thomas went on to receive his Associate of Applied Science degree in Computer and Electronics Engineering Technology from ITT Technical Institute on March 11, 2012, where he graduated at the top of his class with a near perfect GPA. Thomas and Betty were married on October 11, 2014. On March, 30, 2017, Thomas faced one of the biggest challenges of his life when he received a liver transplant. Thomas and Betty were blessed with their daughter, Rose Emiliana Ballis, on November 9, 2018. Despite his challenges, he began pursuing a degree in history and was a dedicated father who actively helped care for his infant daughter, whom he fell in love with the moment he laid eyes on her.
Thomas left this world at the tragically young age of 38 on January 29, 2021. Thomas lived a deep and meaningful existence and will live on forever through those whose lives he touched in the precious time we had with him. He will be deeply missed.
