Vernon Robert DeMois, age 91, died on Wednesday, March 6, 2019, at home with family. He was born in Far Rockaway, New York on December 4, 1927. As a young man, Vernon was a star athlete in high school and college, becoming the first 4-sport letterman in the history of Adelphi College. He served in the U.S. Navy and the Naval Reserve from 1948 to 1993, retiring at the rank of Lt. Commander.
Vernon was preceded in death by his parents, Vernon William and Anna, sister Ann, and sister Joan. He is survived by his son Vernon Jr. (Chip) and wife Mary of West Chester, Ohio, and son Glenn and wife Sheri of Houston. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Christopher, Joanne, Brian, Justin and Jonathan (Br. Peter Xavier).
Visitation will be held Wednesday, March 13, 6 PM, at Cypress Fairbanks Funeral Home, 9926 Jones Rd., Houston with a Vigil Service and Rosary at 7 PM. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 14, 2019, 10:30 AM at Christ the Redeemer Catholic Church, 11507 Huffmeister Rd, Houston. Burial will follow at Houston National Cemetery.
