Wesley Eugene Hazelwood, 1924 – 2020

Wesley Eugene “Gene” Hazelwood, age 96, passed away on October 2, 2020 in Houston, Texas. Gene was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma on March 5, 1924 to William and Jewel Hazelwood. He grew up in Goodlett, Texas and graduated from Goodlett High School in 1942. Gene was a proud member of the United States Navy from 1943 to 1946. After the Navy, Gene worked as a welder at a local shop in Houston, Texas. He was a member of Pipefitters Local 211 and was also a 32nd degree Mason. He later retired in Marshall, Texas, where he spent many years of his life.

Gene was a loving father, husband, brother, grandfather and great-grandfather. He enjoyed his Copenhagen and spending quality time with his friends and family.

Gene is preceded in death by his parents, his wife of fifty-five years, Mattie Mozell, and his daughter, Shirley Riggins. Gene is survived by his son, Clessie Hazelwood, his granddaughter Tracy Barnes and her husband Justin and their children Joshua and Jackson; granddaughter Kendra Morales and her husband Jeremiah and their children, Halle, Joshua and Keagan; granddaughter Stefhanie Mireles and her children, Kyleigh, Chelsei, John and Austin; grandson Kevin Hazelwood; granddaughter Jenna Cacchieri, her husband Scott and Dakota and Dylan; grandson Jerell Riggins, his wife Rachel and their children, Wesley and Rebecca; and step-grandchildren Morgan and Blake Hotzel and their children, Henry and Noelle.

A private memorial service will be held at Cypress-Fairbanks Funeral Home on Thursday, October 8, 2020.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Heart to Heart Hospice.
