Carlota Leal Cortez born and raised in Weslaco, TX on November 4th 1921. Carlota died at the age of 95 and a half. Passed onto the Lord on May 23rd of 2017 at the home of her daughter in Magnolia, TX. Proceeded in death by her parents, Teofilo Leal and Beatriz Rodriguez Leal and husband Abelardo Cortez and brothers, Predencio and Guillermo Leal and sister, Eduarda L. Hinojosa. Carlota is survived by 8 children. Grace Shamel (Steve), Abelardo Jr. Cortez, Felipe A. Cortez, Sandra Y. Whitman, Beatrice Langhammer (Mike), Hector Cortez (Kay), Jorge Cortez and Yvette Dasbach. The Love of her life were her 21 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren and several cousins and many nieces and nephews.

Carlota was a great cook, so good she owned a successful Mexican Restaurant for 20 plus years in Tomball, TX. Carlota also owned and operated “The Tamale Barn” at The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. It kept her very busy for three consecutive weeks in February for many, many years. Also leaving behind are a Million memories to her family and all those who passed her way.

Pallbearers will be Micheal Langhammer, Chris Fragoso, J.R. Cortez, Jamie Cortez, Abel Cortez III and Keith Watson. Honorary Pallbearers Are: Grandsons, Will Shamel and Josh Locke Cortez. And Great Grandsons- Micah Langhammer and Sebastian Trevino.
